Loving Leather

The perfect leather jacket can be hard to find. You need to find one that isn't too decked out, has a good fit, has pockets and a zipper, and is warm. Depending on the jacket, leather can be worn year round, although I typically tend to wear them more in the fall and winter than spring and summer.

I have two leather jackets - one nice one and one that's relatively cheap. I wear the cheap one out with friends and during the day. The nice one I wear, but I tend to wear it on nights I know it won't get ruined. Leather jackets can be pretty pricey, but if you search, you can find some that aren't too bad. I've come up with some jackets I like at all different price ranges. Just click the link below the image to see the price and where it comes from. Enjoy!

I have a similar jacket to this one that I picked up from Marshalls for $50. It zips down the middle and has two pockets, but it doesn't have the buckles on the sides. I like the plain look of this jacket. I wear mine with jeans and boots and a scarf. It's fun to play up the jacket with scarves or jewelry. I tend to like plain leather jackets over fancy ones because I like the versatility from day to night. This jacket would be easy to wear during the day, or at night getting dinner and drinks with friends.

I love, love, love this jacket. It's not real leather, but that makes it perfect for going out! You don't have to worry about ruining the leather and for $64 it's a steal. I personally love the buttons that roll up the sleeves. Sometimes leather can be tough and stay in one spot, but with this jacket you can roll up the sleeves and button them back! This jacket is perfect for adding a little bit of edge to a fall wardrobe.

This jacket is also $64 and even has a hood! I mean come on, a leather jacket with a hood? You can't beat it. This one also is not real, but it's from Nordstroms so you know it's good quality. I love how the stylist paired the leather jacket with the dress underneath. It makes it casual, but dressy at the same time.

This jacket has the quilted look that I love. It's faux leather, but the material softer so you can roll up the sleeves. I like the opening of this jacket, too. Plus, how awesome is that hunter green color?? This jacket comes in pink, black, green, and gray. It's $78, but I think I would get a lot of use out of it. The color makes it stand out and so often you see jackets in black and tan that colored leather is just so fun!

MICHAEL Michael Kors Two Tone Washed Leather Jacket (Online Only)

I'm normally not a fan of purple. I actually don't think I own anything purple in my closet. It's not that I don't like the color, I just don't wear it (but don't worry, my roommate Katie has enough purple for the both of us to wear!) I think this jacket works because the purple is a deeper hue. It goes well with the black since it's a similar shade. It gives the look an edgier feel, don't you think?

6

I like the two toned leather on this jacket...it's a nice combination. I am not a fan of two toned jackets that are black and brown, but for some reason I think the white and the black pair really well together. This would be great over black jeans and black booties!

7

This jacket has an overall different look because there is a different element - the side zipper. The side zipper adds a different dimension to the jacket and makes it unique. I also like the dramatic opening at the top. This jacket seems to be a little more decked out than the others, but I like it. I'm also loving the little ruffle at the bottom. How awesome is that? Since this jacket is cropped, I would wear it over a dress with tights in the fall or winter.

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday everyone! My favorite things this week...

gold dot pillow

1

I love the gold polka dot print on this pillow. I would use this on my couch or on my bed as an accent. I love gold and polka dots so this pillow is perfect!

Summer into fall: summer dress+ black tights + booties + blazer #fallfashion #apparel #outfit #fall #cute

It's finally gotten cold enough to wear blazers and tights in DC...which I'm loving. I love the look of black tights with a black blazer under a neutral dress. I can see myself wearing this combination a lot this winter.

salted caramel apples {yum}

How delicious does this salted caramel apple look?? One of my favorite fall treats is caramel apples, but this takes it to a new level. The tiny bit of salt will make the apple taste that much sweeter :)

4

One of my favorite things from anthropologie is the volcano candle. It smells soo good and it comes in this awesome mercury glass container. It 's perfect for a coffee table or a nightstand in the bedroom.

How cute are these containers? These containers from anthro are perfect in the kitchen or even in a bathroom to store make up brushes, q-tips, or anything else you may need to organize. The chalkboard part is a fun way to display them too!!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Balance

Accents

TopJacket , Skirt , Shoes

There are so many features of this outfit that I love. I love the pleats in the skirt. I love the accented gold toe of the shoe. And I love the bow design on an otherwise plain tee. The jean jacket makes the outfit laid back, but the shoes refine the look. It's a laid back sophisticated look, which in my book can't be beat! You don't want to be too dressed up, but you also don't want to be too casual. This outfit is the perfect balance of both :)

One more day until the weekend!

Days Like This...

Quote
1

I'm leaving you with a simple quote today because I am down to the wire getting all of the things on my to-do list done. I am a super procrastinator so I have no one to blame but myself. However, I do have three grad papers due tonight and tomorrow, I'm bogged down with work, and I think I might be going a bit crazy. This is one of my favorite quotes because just reading it gets the song stuck in my head. Whenever I'm having a rough or stressful day reading this quote makes me feel a bit better. Because there are going to be days like this, but you get through them and it all is worth it in the end. Hoping you are having a great day, or you are just trying to get through it like I am.

Thanks for reading!

Pretty Lights

Lighting on mirror
1

I've always liked floor length mirrors and I particularly like mirrors with string lights around them. It's a simple DYI if you like the idea. All you need to do is find a mirror that you like, get some string lights, and then drape them around...it's that easy!

I personally love my Martha Stewart mirror. I can't seem to find it online, but here are some that are similar to mine (1, 2345, 678, and 9). Once you have your mirror, get some string lights from target. I love bulb lights like these. I think the bulb lights give a much different look than christmas/string lights, but it's all up to what you prefer.

Once you've found your lights, drape them around the mirror. If your mirror can hold nails, go ahead and nail them in so they stay put! For mine, I just draped them around (either works). If you find you have excess lights just string them around again. And voila! You have a decorated mirror :)

This works for full length mirrors as well as mirrors on desks or dressers. I think it adds a little something extra to a plain mirror. Check out the ones I found online. I'll be sure to post a picture of mine when I'm done with it tonight!

add lights to my mirror in our entry way...

Starry light string on a pretty mirror - love this idea!

The Beauty Department , Lauren Conrad's beauty blog, even did a "How To" on their website. Check it out if you want more details :)

Good luck stringing your mirror :)

Currently Craving

Currently Craving

I have this dresser from IKEA and I absolutely love it. It's a bit on the massive side, but that makes it perfect for decorating! I'm still trying to figure out my decorating style, but until then I love mixing colors on a white background. This dresser is perfect for doing just that. I started off decorating my dresser with a mirror. I think every girl needs a mirror on their dresser to put the finishing touches on their outfits. I love this mirror with the geometric shape cut outs...plus it's in gold...I'm sold.

When I've found the perfect mirror I move on to choosing a lamp. This can be really difficult, but remember you can always change the shade. Choose a lamp based on the base, and then go to Home Goods and find yourself a lamp shade in the color you want. It's much easier that way. I love the blue see through color of this lamp. I love bubble lamps in general, but the blue color really stands out to me. It reminds me of sea glass in a way. The blue also give a pop of color to my all white dresser.

Next, I find something to display my perfumes. I like to have my perfume and jewelry displayed on my dresser because I put those on last (also why I need my mirror on my dresser). I love putting my perfumes on mirrored trays and this one is perfect. I really like the detailing on the edge. I arrange my perfumes depending on how big/small the tray is. The one I have on my dresser now is slightly smaller so I have three perfumes and a tiny perfume bottle from my great-great grandmother. I choose perfumes that tend to go well together in size, color, and shape. They aren't necessarily ones I wear all the time, but they go well together. Plus, let's face it, I really only wear Daisy by Marc Jacobs anyway!

After I've finished decorating the bigger items I try to fill up some space on the dresser. As I've said before, this dresser is quite larger so I need more than just a mirror, lamp, and tray. I love adding candlesticks with white candles. I have the mirrored candlesticks from IKEA, but these from H&M work too. I also add a glass vase with some pink peonies to my dresser for the finishing touch.

I'll add some pictures of my dresser so you can see what I did with mine at home :)

Thanks for reading!

Friday Favorites

It's that time again! Here are a few of my favorite things....as of now :)

The leaves are finally starting to change around DC. It really is a stunning city in the fall (although I could probably say that in the winter, spring, and summer). Who am I kidding? DC is beautiful no matter the season! However, I am particularly loving the change in leaves. I took this picture when I was in upstate New York at my friend's lake house. The leaves were gorgeous and I'll be posting about our trip in a few days.

I love, love, love this scallop ring from kate spade. I think the scallop edge is so unique. They have it in gold, white, and pink...and you can stack them for an added effect! Much different than the bow ring I posted about here

cozy neutrals.

It's officially November and you know what that means? Cozy knits! I'm loving the sweater weather before it gets too chilly and I have to wear my winter coat. Plus, sweaters just make life more comfortable.

4

I'm liking this messy pony I found on pinterest. I'm not quite sure how they did it, but shouldn't be too hard, right? With a little messing around I think I can figure it out...

Give Thanks Mantel
5

Halloween is over...on to the next holiday! Thanksgiving is just around the corner so it's time for "thankful" decorations. I love this look for a shelf or mantle. And how awesome is the burlap "give" banner. I might just have to have this in my apartment!

Have a wonderful weekend :)
